FSE-501 Technology Entrepreneurship, Arizona State University, Fulton Schools of Engineering, Tempe, AZ Fall 2015-Present

Most engineers harbor a dream of starting their own tech company. The tech entrepreneurship class provides engineers with an opportunity to explore how tech innovation moves through the process of finding problem-solution fit and product-market fit. They learn all the elements of Lean Startup and Design Thinking, perform customer discovery, run experiments through the Build-Measure-Learn loop and present their findings to potential investors in the form of an investor pitch.

FSE-502 Strategic Enterprise Innovation, Arizona State University, Fulton Schools of Engineering, Tempe, AZ Fall 2016-Present

Strategic Enterprise Innovation provides working engineers with the extraordinary opportunity to understand how strategy and innovation work together to develop successful new tech products that are both profitable and strategic. Students first learn how to develop strategy from the C-level perspective and subsequently develop a set of Strategic Business Objectives (SBOs) that drive innovation within their own organizations. They then apply the 4 lenses of innovation to began the process of discovery and ideation. From this process, they advance the development of various ideas until they determine which ones present the best strategic opportunity. The course concludes with a 6 week investigation of finding product-market fit for their best idea.

FSE-598 New Venture Challenge, Arizona State University, WP Carey School of Business, Tempe, AZ (offered in the spring B session) Spring 2016-Present

In the spring of 2016 I began collaboration with 7-time  serial entrepreneur Scott Wald to deliver a joint MBA, graduate engineering class focused on new venture development. This 7.5 week spring session class provides MBA and engineering students with an opportunity to develop effective collaborations that are intended to lead to successful tech startups. A $50K cash prize is given to the team with the best strategy for monetization. Teams are required to pitch before acceptance into the class. We usually accept 8 to 10 teams in the class. Because this is considered an accelerated launchpad, teams are expected to pursue their innovative ideas into the market.

FSE-298 An Introduction to Entrepreneurial Mindset, Arizona State University, Fulton Schools of Engineering, Tempe, AZ Fall 2016

This undergraduate elective was for freshmen and sophomore engineering students who wanted a more complete understanding of what entrepreneurial thinking is and how it works in harmony with their developing engineering knowledge and skills. It was a project based class in which they looked for problems in their world that they saw needed a better solution. They formed teams, developed prototypes, interviewed people with the problem and then presented their proposed solutions.

USPCAS-E/USAID Technology Entrepreneurship, Arizona State University, Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development, Tempe, AZ 1/8/16-4/30/19

I taught a new cohort of faculty and graduate engineering students technology entrepreneurship each semester from spring of 2016 through the spring of 2019. The USAID-funded U.S.–Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies in Energy program (USPCAS-E) focus was on applied research relevant to Pakistan’s energy needs and served as a bridge between the government, industry, and academia while undertaking sustainable energy  policy formulation.

USPCAS-E is a partnership between Arizona State University and two leading Pakistani universities: the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Islamabad and the University of Engineering and Technology in Peshawar (UET). Through this partnership, ASU leveraged its expertise in higher education, university design, applied research, and energy to help Pakistan release its enormous potential for economic growth through its universities.
